Internet Advancement and Rechartering

Advancement in each Scouting program is designed to be age-appropriate for the youth eligible to participate in it. Ranks form the foundation for the experiences; they are established and authorized by the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America and described in the various member handbooks. The advancement program is administered by a combination of adult and youth leaders, with young people taking more responsibility as the members progress. The role of parents also differs with member age and ability, but parents are encouraged to be engaged at all levels.

What is Internet Advancement?

Internet Advancement allows you to enter youth advancements, awards, and merit badges, as well as perform the following actions:

  • Select members from your existing roster
  • Review, update, or add ranks, merit badges, and/or awards
  • Access an online Review Unit Roster feature and the Unit Advancement Summary
  • Print an Advancement Report with a Unit Awards Summary to assist in purchasing

Recharter

What is Recharter?

The Boy Scouts of America operates traditional Scouting by chartering local organizations, such as churches, clubs, civic associations, or educational organization, to implement the Scouting program for youth within their communities. Once a year these organizations must "recharter" their unit in order to continue offering the Scouting program. This process is usually done online, and involves a unit updating its roster and renewing each of its members' registrations. 

 What is Internet Rechartering?

Internet Rechartering is the easiest way to complete your unit's recharter. The Internet Rechartering tool puts the entire recharter process at your fingertips, and allows you to complete the entire process by:

  • Selecting members from your existing charter roster
  • Promoting members from another unit
  • Adding new members
  • Updating member information
  • Printing a summary of costs associated with the new charter
