Dr. James Atkins to Receive Distinguished Citizen Award

Goldsboro's noted oncologist will receive honor on May 4, 2010. Dr. Atkins works with Southeastern Medical Oncology Center and has been involved with cancer research for the past 20 years through the national clinical trials system.

James N. Atkins, MD will receive the “Distinguished Citizen Award” from the Tuscarora Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award will be presented May 4, 2010 at Walnut Creek Country Club. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are available for sale through the Tuscarora Council’s office. Cost is $150 per individual or $250 per couple. Tables for eight are available for $1,000. Tickets must be purchased by April 26.

Dr. Atkins works with Southeastern Medical Oncology Center and has been involved with cancer research for the past 20 years through the national clinical trials system. He is also a clinical associate professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Dr. Atkins and his wife, Sherry, live in Goldsboro.  His mother and stepfather, Marion and Robert Adair also reside in Goldsboro.  He has two adult children and two grandchildren.

All proceeds from the event benefited the Tuscarora Council, which serves approximately 8,000 youth and adult volunteers in Duplin, Johnston, Sampson and Wayne Counties of eastern North Carolina.
