Strategic Plan 2013-2017

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Tuscarora Council, Boy Scouts of America to deliver the highest quality, values-based youth program of character development and leadership training, based upon the principles embodied in the Scout Oath and Law, and to prepare our young people to make ethical decisions in order to reach their full potential and to better serve their family, community and country.

  

Vision Statement (What our council will look like)

To have a viable Scouting Council, in eastern North Carolina, with an effective structure and expanding program for youth, families, chartered organizations, units & our local communities that will remain sustainable throughout the 21st century and prepare every eligible youth to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law. But most of all, youth members and their families, will come to us for a great time and for adventures that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Governance

Vision
That the governance responsibilities of each organizational element of the Tuscarora Council are clearly defined and fully accepted.  Leadership excellence is exhibited by the Executive Board, Executive Committee, Key 3, District Committees and Chartered Organizations in their active governance and visionary guidance.

Finance

Vision
Grow the Council’s operating, capital and endowment funds to provide support for existing program needs and future growth of the program.

Membership

Vision
Increase market share, membership, and retention by providing an opportunity for every eligible youth to participate in a quality Scouting Program.

Program

Vision
Promote leadership, the scouting spirit, and the ideals of scouting through a unique and  inspiring experience 

Council Properties

Vision
The formulation of a plan for identifying the current and future facility needs of Council owned and leased properties.

Leadership & Training

Vision
An effective Scouting program depends strongly on the training of young scouts, their leaders and the volunteers in the program. It is Tuscarora Council’s desire to increase training activities in the near future to include more internet capable training for our units and leaders. This will be accomplished by designating several internet portals accessible to scouting in each of the four counties in our council. Training representatives will coach units in groups on internet training at these facilities. In addition it is our goal to insure equal access can be attained at Camp Tuscarora. As requirements increase in advancement with National BSA we must pursue multiple wireless internet access at our camp for instruction purposes and training.

Communications & Marketing

Vision
To make the Tuscarora Council BSA and the Scouting program in general, more visible to the general public, so that they have a better overall understanding of the program and it’s potential.
